On Thursday, Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) of being two-faced, claiming they only seek to include Dalit leaders when it suits their political ambitions. Speaking at a rally in Lucknow, marking the 19th death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshiram, she stated that the SP tends to forget Dalits while in power, only to remember them when necessary. She emphasized that during their time in office, they neglect the contributions of saints and leaders associated with the Dalit community, only to suddenly recall them when they lose power. Mayawati urged the public to be cautious of such duplicitous individuals.
Allegations Against SP's Neglect of Dalit Heritage
During her address, Mayawati criticized the SP for allowing Dalit monuments and parks to fall into disrepair due to their negligence. She pointed out that they have not invested a single rupee in maintenance, instead pocketing the revenue from ticket sales. Now, out of power, they are attempting to gain attention by claiming they will organize seminars in honor of Kanshiram. She specifically targeted SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, arguing that if he truly respected the legacy of Kanshiram, he would not have renamed the district of Kanshiram Nagar in Aligarh to Kasganj. In contrast, she noted that her party has named universities and institutions after Kanshiram and other prominent figures, initiating numerous welfare schemes that the SP government has since discontinued.
Gratitude Towards Yogi Adityanath's Government
Mayawati expressed her appreciation for the Yogi Adityanath administration for committing to the maintenance of parks and monuments established during her tenure. She mentioned that she had written to the Chief Minister requesting that the ticket revenue be allocated for maintenance purposes. The BJP government assured her that the funds would be used solely for this purpose, and they have followed through on that promise. She thanked the large crowd that gathered to honor Kanshiram, stating that their presence was a heartfelt tribute to his legacy.
